Helping Flood Victims in Nepal
On August 26, 2026, a devastating glacier-related collapse triggered massive flash flooding in the Bhote Koshi region of Nepal. This powerful disaster has claimed lives, left many people missing, destroyed homes, and swept away bridges, schools, and other essential infrastructure.
As of today, more than 4,000 people are still reported missing. Families continue to search desperately for their loved ones while also facing the heartbreaking reality of losing their homes, belongings, and livelihoods. Countless survivors have lost everything they had worked hard to build.
The danger is not yet over as search, rescue, and emergency relief efforts continue.The Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and other emergency teams are working tirelessly in extremely difficult and dangerous conditions to search for missing people, rescue survivors, and assist communities affected by the disaster.
This has become a serious humanitarian crisis. While the immediate needs are still urgent and must be addressed as well, we also understand that the road to recovery will be long.
Compassion for Asia and Run Nepal Responding Together
We are on the ground, working hand in hand with our national NGO partner, local authorites of local communities in the affected areas of Nuwakot and Rasuwa.
Compassion for Asia is a organization committed to both spiritual and social work. Through our partner organization, Reach the Unreached Nepal (RUN Nepal)—a government-registered NGO established in 1998 and authorized to carry out social and humanitarian work—we have served communities in Nepal for many years.
Together with RUN Nepal and community leaders, and other organizations involved in the relief response, we are working to bring practical assistance to families affected by this disaster. Our immediate response is focused particularly on the affected communities of Nuwakot and Rasuwa.
Families affected by the disaster urgently need:
Clean and safe drinking water
Food supplies such as rice, lentils, salt, and cooking oil—the everyday staples local families depend on
Emergency shelter materials, including tents and tarps
Blankets, mattresses, and warm clothing
Cooking utensils and other basic household supplies
Other essential items for families who have lost their homes and belongings
The impact of this disaster extends across a wide area, affecting communities from the northern Himalayan border regions and continuing downstream. For this reason, we are also partnering with churches and other organizations on the ground to reach as many affected families as possible, as quickly as possible.
By working together, we can help ensure that more families receive urgently needed food, clean water, shelter, clothing, and other essential support during these critical days.
