Nepal in Crisis: Praying for areas devastated by flash floods

Nepal is a land of breathtaking natural beauty — towering mountains, glaciers, lakes, and world-famous destinations for hiking and rafting. But the same mountains that make Nepal so beautiful also leave many communities vulnerable to natural disaster.

Yesterday, that danger became a devastating reality. A catastrophic flash flood along the Nepal–Tibet border sent a powerful torrent of water, mud, rocks, and debris tearing through the region. Rasuwa — including Rasuwagadhi, Timure, and Syaphrubesi — has been hit hardest, with destruction also reported downstream in Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Chitwan. Homes that families have lived in for generations, roads, bridges, and power infrastructure have been swept away in moments. At least 270 people are confirmed dead, and roughly 800 remain missing, with the full scale of this tragedy still unfolding as search and rescue teams work around the clock.

The Nepalese government has mobilized helicopters, military personnel, police, and rescue teams to evacuate survivors, search for the missing, and deliver emergency relief — often in extremely difficult and dangerous conditions.

This tragedy is not distant to us. We have learned that three families from one of our own churches in the affected region have been impacted directly.

We don’t yet know the full extent of the damage, but we know this: mothers are searching for children, villages have lost the only bridge connecting them to help, and families are sleeping without a roof tonight. Behind every statistic is a name, a home, a story.

Please pray — for those who have lost loved ones, for the hundreds of tourists and locals are missing, for families who have lost everything, and for the rescue workers risking their own safety for strangers. Please pray especially for our church family in Nepal walking through this.

Given the scale of destruction, we recognize this community will need sustained, long-term support — not just immediate relief.
