Pray for belivers at Gairagha Dolakha!
Christians in Nepal—particularly in rural areas—continue to face serious discrimination and mistreatment. A recent incident in Gairaghar village, Dolakha District, underscores this harsh reality. Among the 130 households in the village, only seven are Christian, with a small group attending a nearby A.G. Church. On July 13, 2025, an elderly Christian woman, Amrit Maya Shrestha, passed away and wished to be buried according to her faith. Her family initially prepared a grave on their private land, but some local individuals persuaded them to use a public forest burial site instead. However, as the burial began, angry villagers appeared, shouting that Christians were not allowed to bury there and even threatened to exhume the body.
The intimidation didn’t stop there—people from nearby villages also came to pressure the family to remove the body. Her grandson shared how the family simply wanted to fulfill his grandmother’s final wish, but instead faced fear, disrespect, and threats. This incident reflects the continuing persecution of Christians in Nepal and highlights the government’s failure to uphold the rights of religious minorities in practice.
