In Kathmandu, There are an estimated 5,000 street children.  The  political instability for decades, internal armed conflict, extreme poverty, and the effect of the 2015 catastrophic earthquake has caused the number of street children increased in Nepal. Children on the street, they often become victims of physical violence and sexual abuse, and many end up taking the drugs such as the glue brand Dendrite. The children’s situation in Nepal is alarming. The report from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the government of Nepal office published in 2010.

  • Of the total, 7.7 million children between 5 and 17 years of age in Nepal, an estimated 3.14 million children are working( in employment), the great majority in rural areas

  • 621000 children are estimated to be engaged in hazardous work
  • In Kathmandu Valley, an estimated 11-13000 girls and women are working in the night entertainment industry, of which many are forced to engage in sexual activities and are vulnerable to trafficking.
  • 4.5% of primary school-aged children are out of school

We admit children from the following backgrounds to our children’s home:

  • Genuine orphans and have no family or relatives to care for them. These are our priorities.
  • Have two parents, but the child’s life is at risk or in danger.
  • Have one single parent who is unwilling to take care of their children due to difficult situations or abort .

The admission process to the children home starts with recommendations from the local government in their home district. These offices include: Ward offices; Village or municipality office; Police departments;  District civil offices; District child welfare offices The local governmental administrative office will verify their story and their need. They all have their individual stories and challenges. They come from different backgrounds. We are trying to help these children the best we can by providing them with an education and the basics they need to have a future and a normal life. Many of these children would never have the opportunity to attend school if they were not at the children home.

Our Mahima Children’s Home was started 22 years ago, with five street children from Thamel.

However, we have seen that the need is more significant than that. Mahima Children’s Home receives children from any cultural or religious background. Our priority is to help orphans, meaning children without a father or a mother or other immediate family care for them. We also help children who have a single parent or come from families suffering from extreme poverty.

Ashish is the second children’s home. We adopted this orphanage in 2010, and we have been working on getting sponsors for these children ever since. They were to the point where they had to close down the orphanage soon if they did not find anyone to help them.
We said that we would do whatever we could to help them run this children’s home and take care of them. One by one, we are finding supporters for the children, but we are still in need of more. Please visit our sponsorship page if you can help one of these children every month.

Your monthly support allows us to feed, clothe, house and educate all the children at the home. Child Sponsorship not only provides the ministry financial support, but gives you the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child. Our sponsorship program covers basic costs to provide 24/7 care (home, food, clothing, medical and educational needs, love and care) to all of the children in the home.
If you would like to become a children’s sponsor, we ask you to support a child with a minimum of $30 per month.
You will be given a picture of the child, an annual update, and some information about the child and why he/she is at the child’s home. For more information, please see the FAQ, and  If you are interested in sponsoring a child each month you can contact us by e-mail:

The children’s sponsorship gives a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone who has nothing. For the  children it will make the difference between life and death.  There is nothing like making difference in child’s life.

Thank you for your support!

The scholarship program helps children that live with their family to be able to get a good education and provide for their basic needs. These children who receive a scholarship are people that we know, so that we can ensure that the funds will go to the child’s education.

If you would like to provide a scholarship for a child we will ask you to give $20 per month that will go to the family to cover their expenses for school supplies, fees, uniforms, and other things. You will receive a picture and some more information about the child that you are supporting. If you would like to sponsor a child please contact us by e-mail;

Thank you for making a difference!
